The Kingdom of Crystal
Sunnerå Herrgård is a good base for exploring the different glassworks . Plan a half-day trip or a day-trip in order to give you enough time to see some of them.
There are 14 glassworks in the Kingdom of Crystal, all located within a short distance of each other in the Småland counties of Kronoberg and Kalmar. These include several of the most famous glassworks in the world.
In the smeltries of the Kingdom of Crystal, you can experience the magic moment of creation close up. The rumbling of the furnaces echoes through the centuries, and the molten glass hisses as the master shapes it using only wet newspaper. The tools are practically the same as those which arrived in Sweden in the 16th century, when King Gustav Vasa invited glassblowers from Europe, probably from Venice, to Stockholm.
But the Kingdom of Crystal has even more to offer. It is an "utvandrarbygd" (EMIGRANT REGION), an area from which numerous people emigrated to the New World, and it features a number of unique collections which will tickle your imagination.
